Free medical camp organised once again by Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Holders
View(s):On October 26, from 8.30 am to 4 pm, at the Youth and Sports Ministry, a free medical camp was organised by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Holders’ Association and the Award Holder Advisory Forum in honour of the 41st anniversary of Youth Awards Day. This event was sponsored by the Health Ministry in the Western province.
The general public was encouraged to bring their own medical records to the doctor’s appointment, and many departments, including BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure, cholesterol, general checkups, eye, ear, dental treatments and pap tests—a procedure to check for cervical cancer in women—were made freely accessible.
The National Ayurvedic hospital, J. M. Wickramarachchi opticians and hearing care, Linked Natural and the Sports Ministry sent out well-trained personnel to serve at the medical camp.
There were more than 300 participants, and they were able fully benefit from the free medical camp. The youth who were present that day received an educational lesson on how to use computers without harming themselves as part of this medical camp.
The organising committee also gave out certificates and gifts to show their appreciation to the youth awardees who participated. This free medical camp’s main goal was to motivate the youth awardees to perform additional activities outside of their service projects and to keep providing these services for the general public in the future.
