Pera undergrads receive computers through working students programme
View(s):Deserving undergraduates from five faculties of the University of Peradeniya were presented with computers as a part of the “Working Students Assistantship Programme” (WSAP) wich was introduced by the university a few months ago.
The event took place recently at the Senate Room, and was presided by Vice Chancellor Prof. M.D. Lamawansa along with Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Terrence Madhujith and representatives of the the Peradeniya Alumni Association (Colombo Chapter) under the alumini president Dr. Vipula Jayampathy.
Career Guidance Director Dileep de Silva said the working student programmes were common in overseas universities and the University of Peradeniya was the first Sri Lankan university to introduce this programme.
Prof. de Silva said the overall goal of this programme was to empower students to achieve their personal, academic and professional goals and lead a successful and holistic life. The University of Peradeniya launched this programme with the creation of part time temporary employment opportunities for university students, in all nine of the university’s faculties and other institutes under the university’s purview. The programme and employment opportunities offer flexible hours for the students to suit their academic lives, and so far, it has been a successful programme, Prof. de Silva added.
