Manhole covers create havoc for motorists

Unrenovated manhole covers on the Aluthgama to Wadduwa stretch of the Galle-Colombo main road are causing difficulties for motorists, residents of these areas have claimed.
The manhole covers were fitted into the carpeted road as large concrete tanks were erected underneath, to preserve water and protect telephone pipes.
But the residents claimed manhole covers in around 32 locations had not been renovated for many years, and many motorbike riders had faced accidents as a result.
They urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action.
