SAARC cancer conference and SLCO annual academic sessions this week
View(s):The 17th SAARC International Cancer Conference of the SAARC Federation of Oncologists and the annual academic sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Oncologists (SLCO) will be held from December 7-10 at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.
The sessions will be held under the guidance of Sri Lanka College of Oncologists President Dr N Jeyakumaran, with many foreign and local delegates expected to participate.
The chief guest at the inauguration of the sessions on Thursday, December 8 will be Dr Palitha Abeykoon who was recently appointed to the high-level Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB) co-convened by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Bank.
Dr Abeykoon is Senior Advisor to the Health Ministry and a former WHO Special Envoy for Covid-19 Preparedness and Response.
The Dr Kumar Weerasekara Memorial Oration on the topic ‘Real world evidence in cancer care: A low hanging fruit, waiting to be plucked’, will be delivered by Consultant in Paediatric Oncology, Dr Sanjeeva Gunasekera. Dr Gunasekera is attached to the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama.
