Located in North Colombo, Hulftsdorp is home to a range of street food stalls catering to crowds wandering and enjoying nightlife in Colombo.
These street food stalls cater to a range of tastes, with various combinations of local and foreign, from burgers, hot dogs, brownies to ice cream kottu and a localised roller ice cream in the “Kiri toffee” flavour.
Food unique to the area are also available such as ‘bamboo biryani’ and ‘pani poori’, with a spin-off “fire” pani poori meant to be eaten with fire on top.
There’s a diverse choice of drinks including juice, faluda, virgin mojitos, nannari milk and kulukki sarbath. Novelty drinks such as the Marley is based on singer Bob Marley, in red, green and yellow, with three different flavours. Customers are able to taste this vast variety at an affordable price.
With the majority of local customers arriving during holidays, weekends and Poya days, and even the occasional foreigner, business is booming for these enterprising chefs. Business starts at dusk and goes on well pass midnight.
