The Box office hit “Avatar 2- The Way of Water” making waves with packed audience since the worldwide release both here and abroad. According to records, USD 350 million budgeted movie crossed USD550 million in global ticket sales in just five days after the release.

The film was also marked as one of eight films this year to cross the half-billion mark worldwide and media report indicates that it would record USD one billion by the New Year.

Following the equally successful Avatar, the 2009 first sequel, the Hollywood sci-fi feature is directed by James Cameron from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and TSG Entertainment, and distributed by 20th Century Studios, the cast of ‘Avatar 2’ includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, DileepRao, and Matt Gerald who reprise their roles from the original film.

The Way of Water is set 14-15 years after the events of the first film due to a one year time skip during the story, with most of the film’s events set in 2017 after the time skip. Similar to the first film, the story is set across months with only the more important scenes being shown.

The Way of Water follows the journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri’s newfound family of five children. Despite their best efforts to keep their family together, a familiar threat resurfaces and forces the Sully family to become refugees and flee to the land of the Metkayina clan in the Pandoran oceans.

Over a decade after the events of the first film, Jake Sully has been living a peaceful life as Chief of the Omaticaya clan and raising a family with his lover Neytiri, which includes
his sons Neteyam and Lo’ak and his daughter Tuktirey, his adopted daughter Kiri (born from Grace Augustine’s comatose avatar), and a human boy Miles “Spider” Socorro, the son of Miles Quaritch, born on Pandora but was unable to be transported to Earth in cryostasis due to being an infant. While Jake is able to accept Spider as an adopted son, Neytiri is distrustful of him given his human origins. However, all the children mingle and socialize well with each other including Spider, whom Kiri is affectionate with even though he is a human. Spider does not embrace his human heritage and feels more inclined to Na’vi culture and traditions.

They lead a happy life until one day they notice a new star in the night sky. Much to their horror, they realise it signals the arrival of a fleet of RDA interstellar ships. Humans have returned to Pandora to further colonise in the wake of the fall of Hell’s Gate, due to impending environmental collapse on Earth.

The filming took place simultaneously with a currently untitled third film in Manhattan Beach, California, on August 15, 2017 and the location was moved to Wellington, New Zealand on September 25, 2017, and concluded in late September 2020 after three years of shooting.

Avatar: The Way of Water’s plot is intended to be a fully-encapsulated standalone narrative, as the other sequels, but will also be part of a meta-narrative that extends across Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar 3, 4 and 5.
