Outside the Presidential Secretariat, the Galle Face Green some months ago was the site of one of Sri Lanka’s biggest public protests which forced the then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to flee the country and resign. This week, the area was turned into a festive site with Christmas trees, lights, and carols by the Army band while families and children participated with joy and cheer. The event was arranged by the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority with a banner proclaiming Nothing Impossible – a famous quote from the Bible.
