Topmost Indian award for Sri Lankan press magnate Nadesan
View(s):Sri Lankan national Thiru Sivakumar Nadesan (Kumar Nadesan), Managing Director of Express Newspapers and Chairman, Sri Lanka Press Institute will be conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA), 2023, during the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Indore, India on Tuesday (January 10).
The award, the highest honour given by the Government of India to foreign nationals will be conferred on Mr. Nadesan and others around the world by the President of India Droupadi Murmu.
The PBD convention is being held from today with an inaugural address by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and a special address by Australian MP Zaneta Mascarenhas and go on till January 10.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the convention tomorrow (January 9). It will also feature addresses by the Chief Guest, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the President of Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and the Special Guest of Honour, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname.
Among the subjects on the agenda for discussion are the leveraging the soft power of India through craft, cuisine and creativity, role of the indian diaspora and several sessions arranged by the host state government of Madya Pradesh.

the coveted honour.
Mr Kumar Nadesan was selected for his contribution to the welfare of his community, a press release from the Indian high commission states. He is the current President of the
Sri Lanka chapter of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin and has been working relentlessly for community welfare. He initiated a fundraiser to assist stranded Indian citizens in Sri Lanka during the Covid outbreak, the release added.
He actively promotes business and cultural exchanges between India and Sri Lanka and has been instrumental in inviting many Indian artists to perform in Sri Lanka. Further, he has supported several initiatives pertaining to classical and traditional fields such as Carnatic music in Sri Lanka. He has spoken at various PBD conferences and was invited
to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the
Kumbha Mela in 2019.
