Escapism by RAYE becomes No 1 song in the UK
Three months after its original release and thanks to going viral on social media the song ‘Escapism’ has become the No: 1 song in the UK this week for RAYE. It’s the 25 year old singer and song writer’s first chart topping song with the support of the US rapper 070 Shake (Daniella Balbuena). With the Christmas songs slipping away and normal songs bidding for chart rankings, ‘Escapism’ had 5.6 million streams this week to take the No: 1 spot, climbing from 13.
RAYE has been around since 2014 and been on the top 10 singles chart earlier, but the London born artist fell out with her record label over the release of her debut album. She spilt with the label taking control of her career with ‘Escapism’ being her first No: 1 as an independent artist. The song is the lead single from her forthcoming album ‘My 21st Century Blues’. She has co-penned ‘Escapism’ with 070 Shake and the song’s producer Mike Sabath.
Miley Cyrus returning with a new album
Miley Cyrus is returning with a new album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ due on March 10. The lead single Flowers’ was released on 13th January. Her last album ‘Plastic Hearts’ was released in 2020.
80’s iconic female artists band together for single
An array of top senior female artists who have been individually big stars have joined forces to form the ultimate girl group. Industry greats Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, Belinda Carlisle and Debbie Harry who were the 80’s iconic female artists have banded together to record the song ‘Gonna Be You’. The person behind the effort is Diane Warren the veteran and multi award winning song writer. The song ‘Gonna Be You’ has been made for the movie 80 For Brady. The song will be released on January 20, while the film will hit the cinemas in February.
Rita Ora releasing a new single
Rita Ora who has been on a long break is releasing a new song ‘You Only Love Me’ this month. The track will be the lead single to her third album this year. The 32 year old who married a few months has been working on her new album in Albania. Ora’s last album ‘Phoenix’ came out in 2018. In 2021 she released the collaborative EP ‘BIG’ which featured Imanbek, David Guetta, Gunna and Sigala.
50Cent developing new television series
Rap star 50 Cent has announced he is developing a television series inspired by Eminem’s film 8 Mile. Eminem’s 8 Mile was largely an autobiographical movie that came out in 2002. While reports from the US say Eminem will be working on the project, no date has been set for its release.
