The rowing crew of Asian International School (AIS) dominated the recently concluded 8th Inter-Schools National Rowing Championships 2022 held at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre. The AIS rowers, led by Nikhail Bagoos, secured the Overall Girls Championship jointly and were the runners-up in the Overall Boys’ Category.

AIS bagged a remarkable tally 46 of gold, eight silver and 11 bronze medals at this prestigious national regatta which featured the participation of many national and international schools. This outstanding achievement of an array of medals, several Age Group Championships and the Overall Championship was a testimony to the discipline, dedication and commitment demonstrated by the crew under the watchful guidance of their coach Major Vasantha Nirmal.

They claimed a total of five overall trophies – which included the Overall Championship in Girls, Overall Runners-up title in Boys and the overall titles in Under-18 Boys and Girls and Under-16 Boys.

It is certainly a credit to these boys and girls that they could clinch the races against schools with larger numbers of students and a longer history in the competitive sport.
