Ilma to host International Schools U-20 Netball Tourney for 12th consecutive year
View(s):February 1 of 2023 marks a momentous event in the calendars of Ilma International Girls’ School (IIGS) and TISSL (The International Schools of Sri Lanka) as the 12th annual Inter-International Schools Under-20 Netball Tournament will be hosted by IIGS at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo. The tournament is open to all schools that fall under TISSL, and this year 14 schools will engage in a formidable contest to win the cup.
Last year, the tournament concluded with a gripping finale between hosts Ilma International Girls’ School and Gateway College, in which the latter emerged champions. All schools showcased brilliant aptitude in all aspects of sportsmanship leaving no doubt for yet another challenging series of matches this year.
International schools from across the island that will compete in the tournament include Asian International School, British School Colombo, Colombo International School of Colombo and Kandy, Gateway Colleges of Colombo and Kandy, Horizon College International, Lyceum International Schools of Nugegoda, Panadura, Ratnapura and Wattala, OKI International School, Royal Institute and host, Ilma International Girls’ School.
This event will not only be an opportunity for all school teams to exhibit their athletic talents but will also equip them with the learning experience of teamwork, dedication, and resilience, all while working their way to the final match. It is vital that all players treat one another with deference despite all the praiseworthy aspects and shortcomings faced throughout the course of the day.
The draw for the tournament took place on January 17 at IIGS and was attended by delegates of participating schools.
“On behalf of the host, Ilma International Girls’ School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome all participating schools to the 12th Annual TISSL Inter-International Netball Tournament. We hope to witness an excellent demonstration of skills and sportsmanship on February 1, at Sugathadasa Stadium,” the Principal of IIGS, Sarah Hussain, expressed her best wishes to all teams taking part in the tournament.
