National netball skipper honoured by Girls’ High School
View(s):A tumultuous welcome was afforded by her alma mater to the captain of the Asian Netball Championship winning team, Gayanjali Amarawanse at Girls’ High School, Kandy. She was welcomed by the Principal Malkanthi Abeygunawrdene, Deputy Principal Champika Karunadasa, the staff members and the entire school, where she was welcomed by the school band.
Gayanjali speaking at the event said that she was in the school from her primary days and she did what was adviced by the tutors and she came up to this position with continuous practice and in the manner she led the netball team of her school.
The Principal Malkanthi Abeyugundwardene said that Gayanjalli was in the school from 2006 to 2013 and that she led the school netball teams with distinction. In the Under-14 Milo Netball Championship she emerged the most valuable player in the 2014 edition and she later on became the Games Captain of the school.
In 2013 Gayanjali became a member of the national netball team added the school principal. The felicitation ceremony was held at the Samson Auditorium of the school before a packed audience of students and teachers.
