Karatekas Sithupa and Genevera make OKI proud
View(s):Two young athletes from OKI International School, Wattala – Sithupa Thenu Wickramarachchi and Genevera Fernando — are depicting their versatility towards sports, heading to bring glory to OKI Network of Schools and the beloved mother land.
Both Sithupa and Genevera are aspiring martial artists with karate being their main forte.
These to proud products of OKI will be shining in many international games making the mother land proud in time to come.
Sithupa, who already has a tally of 30 gold, nine silver and five bronze medals, is a proud South Asian Games gold medalist, which was held in 2019. Genevara has won many medals including a silver medals in the South Asia Championship 2022, which was concluded recently.
Sithupa’s achievements in karate include a gold medal at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship in the cadet event. He has claimed a gold and three silver medals at National level and representing Western Province in the provincial games, Sithupa has claimed seven golds and a bronze.
At Inter-International Schools level, he has claimed seven gold medals and a silver medal, in addition to the 15 golds, five silvers and four bronzes he won at tournaments conducted by the national association.
Genevara began her medal winning spree at the International Schools Karate Championship (ISKC) competing in the Under-16 age category. She claimed a gold medal each in Kumite, Kyu and Kata, while going on to claim the trophy for the upcoming athlete at the competition in 2022.
She was placed second in Kumite at the South Asian Championship 2022 in the Under-16 54kg weight category, before claiming a bronze medal in Kata in the same age category at the National Karate Championship 2022.
