Colombo Uni begins new unit to study and promote natural products
View(s):The University of Colombo recently inaugurated the Unit of Research and Development of Natural Products at the Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM) in Rajagiriya. It has been established to foster research and development efforts, to develop natural pharmaceutical indigenous and ayurveda products, and to use the existing local traditional knowledge, medical plants, minerals and animal products to meet the increasing demand for ayurvedic products and treatments.
The new unit’s vision is: “the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for people to take maximum advantage of available natural products, effectively and efficiently, and preserving the natural environment to achieve these goals through a systematic research and development teaching, and training of physicians using this system of medicine.”
The unit functions as an affiliated unit under the Director of the IIM and the team of the Dravyaguna Vignana (Ayurveda Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics) Unit.-NF
