Norwegian undergrads on study tour at Hambantota Port
View(s):25 undergraduates from the University of Adgar, Norway, who were on a tour for their Bachelor’s programme in Development Studies, visited the Hambantota International Port (HIP).
The tour lens was to explore the broad range of development issues in practice, and challenges in respect of Sri Lanka’s advancement.
The undergrads were offered a ride through the various processes of the Port and informed about its strategic values, future expansion plans, and current and future investment projects.
They were provided an outline of the Port’s engineering and technology management, green initiatives, and constancy of reducing greenhouse gases. The delegation were also made aware of the big picture of Sri Lanka’s port development and infrastructure, and Colombo Port’s and HIP’s overall subvention to the Lankan economy.
The Bachelor’s programme in Global Development Studies at the University of Agder scopes out the pertinent issues and challenges in the growth of the 21st century and the complex interconnections of culture, globalisation, migration, international and national power structures, economic interests, resource control
