Assaulted tuition master dies of injuries and aggravated heart condition

A young tuition master beaten up by three teenagers, after he offered advice to them, passed away due to the assault and an aggravated heart condition, a postmortem has revealed. He was a resident of the Welipenna Police area of the Kalutara district.
The deceased was identified as Ranga Viraj Jayasinghe, who died after being admitted to the Aluthgama Seenawaththa hospital by his wife. He was a 34-year-old father of an 11-months-old infant.

The Judicial Medical Officer has noted there was bleeding under the skull and a history of assault aggravating the heart condition.
Initial investigations have shown that the three youth had repeatedly hit the victim in the head with
a motorcycle helmet during
an argument.
The incident took place at the Kurundippita Junction in Galmatte at Aluthgama, close to the victim’s residence. The Mathugama Magistrate’s Court ordered that the three accused be detained at the Child Remand Home in Makola until February 28.
The suspects are Grade 11 students at Walagedara Maha Vidyalaya and the wife of the deceased worked as a development officer in the same school. Mr Jayasinghe had advised the three teenage boys after they were seen riding two motorcycles at excessive speed.
The Police said the suspects were not wearing helmets at the time the incident took place, even though they were in possession of helmets.
The Welipenna Police Inspector said the bikes were detained after the suspects were arrested, and further investigations were being carried out to determine the real cause of the verbal argument.
Meanwhile a similar incident was reported from Palathota in Kalutara, when a 14-year-old was arrested in connection with his 26-year-old brother’s murder. The victim succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital.
The Police Media Division reported that the teenager struck his elder brother with a machete. The mother of the two siblings had left home to visit her hopsitalised husband at the time of the tragedy.
