New circular on admissions to intermediary classes
View(s):A new circular on admissions to intermediary classes in schools will be issued before the commencement of the next school term on March 27, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
He added that under the new circular, students will be enlisted consistent with the number of vacancies in the respective schools.
The admission of students to intermediary classes – from Grade 2 to Grade 5 and Grade 6 to Grade 10 – was suspended six months ago due to irregular admissions.
Dr Premjayantha said the usual categories that would be given priority such as children of public sector employees on transfer, children who have returned from overseas and those whose permanent residency have changed would be accommodated under the list.
The names of those selected from an interview process after processing their application would have to be sent to the Education Ministry for approval. The Ministry will review the selections before final approval is granted.
He pointed out that it was not necessary to call over at the Ministry to collect letters, and that the Ministry will not be issuing letters for the selection process.
The selected students would not have to pay any additional fees for admission. (DWI)
