International Mother Language Day celebrated

Language is the most powerful instrument in preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage and identity. Among all languages, mother language is something special.

The High Commision for Bangladesh to Sri Lanka observed International Mother Language Day on February 21 at Independece Square. The chief guest at the event was Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. The theme was ‘Mother Language | Unity in Diversity’.

There was a display of children’s art work and a multilingual cultural performance, followed by deliberations and an awards ceremony.

The event was co-organised by the High Commission for Bangladesh to Sri Lanka and Ministry of Education of Si Lanka. High Commissioner Tareq Md Ariful Islam and Education Minister Dr Susil Premajayantha were also present.
