School dropouts to be equipped with vocational education: Education Minister
View(s):The Education Ministry is to provide vocational education for all children who dropout from school, Education Minister Dr Susil Premajayantha said. He said that action is being taken with the coordination of all relevant institutions, and each child must obtain some type of vocational qualification.
“It is the responsibility of parents to direct dropout children to obtain a vocational qualification, in order to make them useful citizens of the country,” said the minister, at the Perceptions’23 art exhibition of Thurstaon College. The minister added that the orientation of education must be changed to a direction full of skills. He expected to create skillful inventors with balanced knowledge and mental development through the educational transformative process to be done in future.
“Our children are empowered with necessary knowledge; the change of attitudes must begin among adults before the children,” the minister said.
“Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, together with aesthetic subjects will be integrated into our new educational changes. Actions have been taken to conduct 59 seminars simultaneously in nine provinces on March 31, and the main programme will be held at the New Arts Theatre in Colombo,” the minister said.
