Royal warm up for Big Match with 10-wicket win
Royal College, Colombo coasted to a convincing 10-wicket win over Prince of Wales in their Inter-School Under-19 cricket encounter concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday. Resuming from the overnight score of 186-5, Royal went on to reach 281-8 before declaring, against Prince of Wales’ total of 136.
Royal were aided by fine knocks from Dasis Manchanayake and Sanvindu Senaratharachchi, who scored 91 and 61 respectively.
Batting for the second time, the Cambrians were bowled out for 179, and with an advantage of 145 runs, Royal were set to chase only 35 for an easy victory, which they scored in just 27 deliveries.
Meanwhile the match between Maliyadeva and Mahinda, played at Sooriyawewa ended in a high scoring draw. The highlight of the match was the unbeaten knock of 169 in 168 balls by skipper Dhanuja Induwara, who also hit 14 boundaries and a six during his knock, and shared a massive 243-run stand for the seventh wicket with Tharusha Dilshan. Dilshan made 117 with 13 boundaries and a six.
