Gateway triumphs at COMUN 2023
View(s):The 29th session of the Colombo Operated Model United Nations (COMUN) Conference was held on the 4th,5th and 6th of March 2023. The Gateway College Delegation exhibited true excellence by securing 27 awards – the highest for any institution.
In the First General Assembly(GA1), the Best Foreign Policy Statement Award was won by Dhivyakrishnan Thriyampakan. While an Honourary Mention Award was attained by Sajjad Reyaz, the Higher Commendation Award was clinched by Nishthula Subasinghe. Dhivyakrishnan Thriyampakan secured the coveted Best Delegate Award. The Best Novice Award was won by Nethul Willarachchi In the Third General Assembly(GA3), Yusuf Ali Barrie clinched the prestigious Best Delegate Award. In the Fourth General Assembly(GA4), the Best Foreign Policy Statement award was attained by Joel Shankar. The Honourary Mention was awarded to Mandiv Samaratunga, while Higher Commendation awards were won by Rishon Silva and Joel Shanker. The highly sought after Best Delegate award was achieved by Abdul Aziz Fauzul Ameer.
In the Group of 20 (G20), an Honourary Mention award was attained by Isumi Wanniarachchi whilst the prestigious Best Delegate award was secured by Shimar Yasir Khan. In the League of Arab States, a Honourary Mention was clinched by Imra Rizvi while Sharini Nirmalan won the Higher Commendation award. In the Security Council, the Best Foreign Policy Statement was written by Ayathma Adikari the coveted Best Delegate award was won by Vyshalini Rajendran. In the International Press Corps, the Best News Agency was awarded to the Reuters, of which Siddesh Ram shankar was a member.
In the ad-hoc committee formed by amalgamating GA1, GA3, and GA4, an Honourary Mention was achieved by the delegation representing France consisting of Joel Shankar, Nishthula Subasinghe, and Bihan Amaratunga, while the Best Delegation award was secured by the delegation of New Zealand comprised of Dhivyakhrishnan Thriyampakan, Abdul Aziz Fauzul Ameer, and Yusuf Ali Barrie. In the combined crisis committee of the G20, LAS, and the SC, the Best Delegation award was clinched by the delegation of the United Kingdom represented by Vyshalini Rajendran, Shimar Yasir Khan, and Sharini Nirmalan. Students of Gateway College Dehiwala clinched most of the top Awards.
MUNers of Gateway keep raising the bar every year thanks to the Deputy Principals, Mr. Anthony Chelliah of Gateway College Dehiwala and Mrs. Nishotha Anuraj of Gateway College Colombo, as well as the Teacher-in-Charge of Gateway College Kandy, Mr Dilshan Senaratne.
