Gateway’s Dinara receives Best Performer Award at ISAC 2023
View(s):Dinara Bandara Dela of Gateway College won the ‘R.I.T. Alles Challenge Trophy’ for the Best Performance at the International Schools Athletics Championship (ISAC) 2023, which was concluded last weekend at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Gateway College won this award. The previous winners were Randi Cooray (2018), and Shelinda Jansen (2019 and 2020), who have gone on to represent the country. Dinara also won the ‘Munchee and Lyceum Challenge Trophy’ awarded to the Best Female Athlete of the Meet. She produced a performance of 24.87secs in the Under 20 Girls 200m to win these two highest awards. She also won the 100m in her age group and was part of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that won gold medals.
Gateway Colombo proved their supremacy at ISAC 2023 by securing 22 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals. Gateway College Kandy too did well by winning six gold, two silver and seven bronze medals. In the overall tally of gold medals, Gateway Colombo was placed second next to Lyceum Wattala and Gateway Kandy was placed fourth next to Lyceum Nugegoda.
Gateway Colombo athletes also won four age group championships — Ashain Theverapperuma (Under-14 Boys), Apoorwa Karunaweera (Under-16 Boys) and Sachini Samarasekare (Under-18 Girls). Ashain won four gold medals (100m, Long Jump, High Jump, 4x100m). He produced an impressive jump of 1.57m to establish a new meet record in the High Jump.
Apoorwa won five gold medals (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m & 4x400m). He was the only athlete who won five gold medals at this meet. Sachini won three gold medals (Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw) with two new meet records. Gateway Kandy athlete Saahl Hafeel won the Under-12 Boys Championship. Gateway Colombo also won the Under-14 overall championship.
Other top achievers of Gateway Colombo included Mithu Ariyawansha (1 gold), Nethara Ranasinghe (2 golds), Nehansa Paranaliyanage (2 golds with a meet record). Six relay teams of Gateway Colombo also won gold medals. Sakith Edirisinghearachchi
