The Faculty of Engineering of SLIIT has embarked upon one of its key projects to strengthen the body of knowledge by organising the 2nd SLIIT International Conference on Engineering and Technology (SICET 2023). This will take place on 25th March 2023 throughout the day at SLIIT Malabe Campus.

SICET conference series targets a number of areas of research that includes Engineering, Technology, Quantity Surveying, Computer Science and Information Technology, Applied Sciences and Statistics. Participants can opt for physical as well as virtual participation in the conference activities. While the main conference will take place on the 25th, the pre-conference workshops will start on 23rd March 2023. Five pre-conference workshops have been scheduled. The speakers of these conferences are both local and international experts on each area.

A series of workshops on various topics will take place on 23rd and 24th March 2023. The first workshop, Environmental life cycle assessment of buildings using Building-SAT, will be held on 23rd March from 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm. The second workshop, Dealing with Construction Insurance, will be held on the same day from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm. The third workshop, Approach to wind power project design, will be held on 24th March 2023 from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm. The fourth workshop, Critical Infrastructure Security – applying cybersecurity to operational technology, will take place on 24th March 2023 from 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm. Lastly, the workshop on Solutions for climate-neutral built environment will be held on 24th March 2023 from 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

Most of these pre-conference workshops will be conducted without a registration fee for the participants to encourage participation. While pre-conference workshops give a prelude to the main conference, the main event’s ceremonial opening will be taken to greater heights by keynote addresses delivered by two internationally acclaimed academics. Prof. Iain Murray from Curtin University, Australia and Prof. Tissa Illangasekara from Colorado School of Mines, USA are scheduled to physically attend and deliver these keynote speeches. Professor Iain Murray is a John Curtin Distinguished Professor in Computer Systems Engineering while Professor Tissa Illangasekara is an AMAX Endowed Distinguished Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Director of Experimental Study of Subsurface Environmental Processes, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado, USA.

A double-blind review process that took place over several weeks has come to an end resulting in the papers with significant contributions selected to be presented at the conference. This rigorous review was done with the technical expertise of local and international experts. These papers will be presented in the technical sessions on 25th March 2023. The technical sessions will cover several sub-areas of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology and Quantity Surveying.

Further, best papers will be selected to be published in the next volume of The Journal of Advances in Engineering and Technology (JAET), the research journal launched last year alongside the inaugural conference of the series.

Registration for the event is now open. The registration information and all other details can be found on the conference website https://sicet.sliit.lk/.  SLIIT has contributed to national and international research and has more to offer in the future. This conference will be an occasion for everyone to learn about latest research developments and initiate research collaborations. The participants will also get a rare opportunity to meet and network with experts in many fields at one location/platform.
