A school student has done an amazing job of transforming a mountain bicycle into an electric bicycle.
Two years ago, Ayesha Mangala Dissanayake, who studies at Anamaduwa Middle School, modified the mountain bike that was gifted by his parents eight years ago to run on electricity in a creative way that others had not imagined.
Ayesha, who had not taken any electrical or technical courses, said he was able to learn how to do the modifications through the Internet, and did everything needed, including welding, by himself.
He made many of the modifications using parts from discarded electric motorcycles and batteries from old computers and bought only digital displays and lights for his bike.
Day by day, he keeps adding enhancements to improve the quality of the bike, and said it helped him immensely during the fuel crisis.
“I worked on the design for this bike for several years, and first I set up another bike to run on electricity. I faced some difficulties and issues with this project, because I have not done any training or studies in this field, but I did not give up. Every time I faced a challenge, my mother motivated me to keep going, and she was my pillar of strength,” said Ayesha.
“My father and sister also always encouraged me. Today, I have completed a battery-powered mountain bicycle that can run on electricity. I also hope to create my own car one day,” he added.
