Young Reshan makes international debut at Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2023
View(s):Young Reshan Algama earned a spot to represent Sri Lanka at the Orion Group 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2023, which got underway at the Kurmitola Golf Club Course in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Reshan, a 15-years-old student of Colombo International School, made his amateur international debut alongside two top senior golfers in Sri Lanka – Chalitha Pushpika of Sri Lanka Navy and the national champion Chanaka Perera.
Reshan’s appearance will be a huge opportunity for the up and coming youngster, who had made a huge impact at junior level in Sri Lanka. He has won many competitions from the tender age and is the current Junior Silver Division champion.
The trio – Reshan, Pushpika and Perera – expectedly formed a formidable Sri Lanka team, and made an impact in the tournament which was held last week. The Bangladesh tournament has been previously won twice by Sri Lankan golfers Nandasena Perera and Lalith Kumara.
The three golfers earned the honour of representing the country after a trial round held at the Victoria Golf Course. Chalitha finished as the top amateur in the trials, one stroke ahead of Reshan and national champ Perera.
Sri Lanka Golf representatives Pushpika and Reshan was accompanied by Perera as a private entry and national champion invited by the Bangladesh Golf Federation. The Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship conducted over four rounds and winner was determined by the lowest gross score aggregate over the four rounds.
