HelpAge Sri Lanka receives Business World International Organization award
View(s):USA-based Business World International Organization (BWIO) recently awarded its ‘Lifetime Achievers Award’ to HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) Chairman Deshabandu Tilak de Zoysa, a well-known business personality and social worker.
HelpAge also received the ‘Most Service Oriented Organization in Sri Lanka’ for the third consecutive year for services rendered for elderly citizens in the country.
Former SL Navy Commander Dr Bandula Wijemanne presenting the award to Samanatha Liyanawaduge. Dr M A A Jabbar, Senthil Thondaman, Prof Rohan de Silva and Prof Dietmar Doering are also in the picture.
The awards were accepted by HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge at the presentation ceremony held at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo.
HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge highlighted the service rendered by HelpAge for vulnerable citizens and said it is engaged in several social services for elderly people living in every nook and corner of the country, free of charge.
He said HelpAge had so far conducted over 46,000 free cataract surgeries for those over 55 years at its state-of-the-art Eye Hospital at Wellawatta. He added that they also distributed dry rations and clothing to needy people.
Guest speaker Prof Dr Dietmar Doering congratulated HelpAge for assisting senior citizens improve their quality of life.
