Basking in Graduation Glory: Curtin University’s Convocation Ceremony for the Class of 2023 held in Sri Lanka
View(s):The ceremonial graduation of yet another batch of Curtin University qualified graduates held on the 20th of March 2023 was a testament to the hard work of the students. The ceremony was graced with the presence of His Excellency Paul Stephens, Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Professor Jeremy Kilburn, The Provost of Curtin, Professor Seth Kunin, The DVC Global of Curtin, and Mr. Guy Harris, the Manager, of Transnational Partnerships & Development of Curtin. The graduation ceremony honoured the accomplishments of Curtin University qualified engineering and computing graduates specialising in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Construction Engineering, Computer Systems and Networking, Information Technology and Software Engineering.
The ceremony was also graced by the Chancellor of SLIIT, Professor Lakshman Rathnayake, The Vice-Chancellor of SLIIT, Professor Lalith Gamage, and The Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost of SLIIT, Professor Nimal Rajapakse, CEO – SLIIT INTERNATIONAL, Dr. Athula Pitigala-Arachchi, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor – SLIIT INTERNATIONAL, Professor Mahesha Kapurubandara along with the deans, lecturers and parents.
Addressing the graduating class, His Excellency Paul Stephens said, “ To all the graduates of the class of 2023, I offer my sincere congratulations. You have no doubt endured many challenges along the way, and it is a testament to your perseverance and commitment that you have reached this point of celebration. No doubt studying through the hardships of the past few years adds further value to your sense of achievement. Take satisfaction in the knowledge that you have no doubt acquired.”
Mr. Praveen Sirimanna, who followed the Curtin University Mechanical Engineering programme, delivered the valedictorian speech on behalf of the class of 2023 and won the Curtin award for Excellence in Mechanical Engineering and Curtin Alumni award for overall performance in Engineering, while Mr. Thevin Rahubedda won the Curtin award for Excellence in Software Engineering and Curtin Alumni award for overall performance in Computing. Mr. Minush Chamilka, Ms. Irfan Nuzha, Mr. Visal Fernando and Mr.Upeksha Anuththara were also the proud winners of the Curtin Excellence awards in the relevant subject fields.
