Barbara Sansoni – a retrospective: Tribute by family & design team
View(s):Barbara Sansoni was a household name in Sri Lanka, her signature handlooms capturing the colours of her island home in vibrant and unusual combinations of checks and stripes, becoming all the rage in any design conscious home or establishment.
Yet she was much more than a visionary designer – an artist, writer and heritage enthusiast. ‘Hang a little landscape colour’ – the Barbara Sansoni Retrospective exhibition which opens next week seeks to reveal the many sides of this well known personality through aspects of her work — from the 60s, to when she launched her store Barefoot until her passing last year.
The downstairs section of the Barefoot Gallery in Colombo 3 will show Barbara’s original poems, letters drawings and books that she published during her lifetime. Upstairs, visitors can browse through the work she had done for Barefoot -her weavings, reddhas, fabrics, mobile furniture walls, toys and bags.
The exhibition is a tribute by Barbara’s family and her design team at Barefoot who worked with her over the years.
The exhibition opens to the public on Friday, April 28 and will be on until May 28 at the Barefoot Gallery, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
