Gateway shines at National Rowing Championship 2023
The rowing crew of Gateway College, Colombo yet again brought pride to their alma mater, as their hard work and dedication for this sport has paid off in spades at the National Rowing Championship 2023 held at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre. The crew’s commendable effort to achieve these goals whilst tackling examinations and other duties is truly an example of fine sportsmanship. The Gateway crew had been tirelessly training together for months, putting in extra hours each week to ensure they were in peak physical and mental condition. They were racing against other elite oarsmen and women and fighting through difficult conditions on the water, this crew’s determination never faltered.
In the end, Gateway Colombo claimed a gold, five silver and three bronze medals, in the Under-14 Boys Quadruple Scull, Under-16 Boys Quadruple Scull, Under-14 Boys Single Scull, Under-14 Girls Single Scull, School Girl Sculler, and the Under-16 Boys Double Scull categories winning a total of 16 medals respectively, showing their perfect performance leaving no doubt as to their strength and skill along with the guidance of the coaches. Their triumph was a testament to the power of teamwork and the rewards that come from hard work and a shared vision.
At this year’s National Rowing Championship, crews from various schools and clubs around the country came together to showcase their skills on the water. With intense competition at every turn, both talent and perseverance were seen by all athletes who took part.
