InterSlam ‘23 ‘Hustle to Slam’
View(s):InterSlam 2023, termed as Sri Lanka’s biggest 3×3 basketball tournament, took by storm at the St. Benedict’s College basketball courts with a large number of school teams participating. The event was organised by the Interact Club of St. Benedict’s College and witnessed 49 teams representing leading schools, companies, clubs, universities, and national basketball teams, battling out for supremacy across four age categories.
The tournament featured thrilling matches and spectacular performances from the participating teams, resulting in nail-biting finishes and historical moments. Notably, D.S. Senanayake College emerged champions in the Under-16 category with a stunning victory over Wesley College, who secured the runners-up position.
In the Under-20 category, a dynamic and mixed team from Wesley College and St. Joseph’s College took home the championship trophy, while St. Peter’s had to settle for the runners-up position.
In the Over-20 age category, which created history, as two national basketball teams were tied in the finals and were declared joint champions. Additionally, the Women’s Open category witnessed a scintillating performance by the Sri Lanka Women’s team, who emerged victorious defeating the Navy Women’s team.
The champions and runners-up in each category were rewarded with cash prizes respectively as the Interact Club of St. Benedict’s College expressed their delight at the overwhelming success of the tournament. The organisers thanked all the participating teams for their efforts and promising to make the next edition of InterSlam even bigger and better.
The presence of distinguished guests, including the chief guest Rev. Br. Dr. Pubudu Rajapaksha FSC, the Director/Principal of St. Benedict’s, staff advisor Rev. Br. Piumal Senevirathna FSC, and Assistant Staff Advisor Mrs. Theja Gamage added to the grandeur of the event, making it a resounding success.
Overall, the event became a sensation in Sri Lanka, with the enthusiasm of the participants and the spectators’ alike, being a testament to the growing popularity of basketball in the country.
The tournament was organised under the dynamic leadership of the organising committee, led by Steffan Tiren, the Secretary Oshada Dias, Tournament Coordinator Aden Merk, Treasurer Aldric Ehaan, Head Prefect and Team Coordinator Imalka Perera, PR and Editorial Coordinators Jazer Labroy and Jordan Sen and Registration Coordinator Shavin de Silva.
