Dissenting SDIGs face disciplinary inquiry
View(s):Senior Deputy Inspectors General (SDIGs) Ajith Rohana and Priyantha Weerasooriya are to face a disciplinary inquiry over the letters they wrote to the National Police Commission (NPC) protesting their transfers.
The two officers are to be subjected to a disciplinary inquiry by the Ministry of Public Security on charges of violating the Establishment Code, a senior ministry official said.
He said the two SDIGs should have first written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Secretary to the Ministry if they had a grievance over their transfers. Instead, they wrote directly to NPC Chairman Chandra Fernando, thereby violating the Establishment Code.
The official said the transfers of both officers had been approved by the NPC and as such, the officers could not refuse the transfers given to them.
The Public Security Ministry Secretary would be calling for explanations from both officers in the next few days, the official added.
