Felicitation for Bridget Halpé
View(s):Bridget Halpé née Abeykoon, dedicated to music since age 6, has continued to impart the divine gift of music to the nation’s children for an exceptional time of 63 years. Known fondly as Aunty Bridget or simply Aunty B by generations of students, her passion for teaching and music exceeds as ever at the ripe old age of 87 with God’s grace and favour.
Born in 1936, nurtured by a solid convent education and graduating from the University of Ceylon, she and her husband, the late Prof Ashley Halpé, moved to England, where she earned her Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in pianoforte performance while pursuing a B.Mus degree at the University of Bristol. Her life has been remarkable and exemplary, rising as a second mother to her students, a beloved wife for 58 years, a caring mother, and now a jolly and winsome grandmother.
In appreciation of her work and service to society through musical enrichment, the Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya has organised a felicitation on May 6, from 3 pm onwards at the Trinity College Main Hall.
