Dukula De Alwis: an outstanding performer at University of Manchester (UK)
We proudly present Mr Dukula De Alwis Jayasinghe who received world prizes and international recognition for his outstanding achievements and is currently following his Integrated Masters in Chemistry at the University of Manchester (UK).
Achievements at RI
Performing extraordinarily well at Cambridge A Levels in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Marine Science and Psychology at Royal Institute Havelock Town, he acquired 5A*s June 2018. He received awards for High Achievement in Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level Marine Science, A Level Marine Science as well as A Level Psychology at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Ceremonies in 2017 and 2018.
Excellent performance at the university
In Manchester, he received the International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship from the Science and Engineering faculty and he reached the top 1% in the first year of the final examinations as well as in the second year first semester examinations. In the second year, he was awarded the British Petroleum Achievement Award which is given to 20 undergraduates across the Science and Engineering faculty at Manchester. His academic performances in both the first and second years led to another International Excellence Scholarship from the University of Manchester (UK).
He says, “Royal Institute has been a turning point in my life and I would ask all the students who are coming to study A Levels at Royal Institute to get the maximum use of the efforts of the teachers as well as the facilities in the school.”
Arosheny Puvanenthiraraja’s journey from RI to Princeton University (USA)
Another extraordinary and prominent alumnus of RI is Arosheny Puvanenthiraraja who was chosen for a 97% scholarship from the prestigious Princeton University, United States to study Molecular Biology on Pre-Medicine.
Multi – talented career as a student of RI
She has not only been an exceptional learner in academics as she actively participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities. She is a testimonial to the holistic education experienced at RI where her leadership skills were fine-tuned. She held numerous titles and won several prizes that she can boast of during her stay at RI, a few of which are listed below:

Dini Kathriarachchi wins a 99% scholarship from Princeton University (USA)
Dini Kathriarachchi, the Head Girl of Royal Institute, Nugegoda, is a role model any student can look up to. Her phenomenal journey commenced at Royal Institute paving the way to the world-renowned Princeton University (USA).
Princeton, the prestigious university which is ranked 6th in the world, awarded her a 99% scholarship for Mechanical Engineering (class of 2027) establishing a great future for her.
Dini’s academic journey at RI
Dini’s journey at RI is full of remarkable achievements; when a single A* is considered a great feat in Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) levels, Dini showed her prowess scoring amazing 8A*s for all subjects at her Ordinary Levels. Further solidifying her potential, she then went on to score full marks for 4 subjects out of the 5 subjects she chose with 5 As at Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level.
Achievements at international and national level competitions
Apart from academics, Dini has proven her brilliance on numerous occasions, including international competitions. She took part in the Singapore Global Math Finals in March 2022 and the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) held in 2020. Based on Dini’s performance in the Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition (SLMC) in 2019, in which she won a Gold Medal in her category, she was invited to compete in IJMO 2020. She succeeded in achieving a Bronze Medal in her category.
Dini and her team proceeded to be ranked 2nd in the 2nd round of the Young Environmentalists’ Challenge 2022, representing her alma mater alongside other prestigious schools. She also won the Young Environmentalist Challenge (YEC) logo design competition in 2023 marking another notable achievement. Most importantly, she is also the designer of the RI 50th anniversary logo which we adore with so much respect. Her excellence in chess was also showcased when she represented Sri Lanka in the renowned Asian Youth Chess Championship in 2019.
