Differently abled teacher builds pandol to help village children
View(s):This Vesak, a disabled teacher in Bulathko-hupitiya, E.S. Dharmasena created a pandol with the main intention of building a small library for children in his village from funds collected from spectators who came to view his pandol.
Born in 1963 in Ellagala, Bulathkohupitiya, Mr. Dharmasena started teaching in 1982 and had taught in three Pirivenas. His disability was due to injuries he sustained in an attack by a group of people in 2003.
Using his innate talent as an artist, he constructed a pandol this Vesak to build a library in a room of the Udugoda Elagalla community hall.
The pandol was 30ft in height and 27ft in width. It had nine image frames and was based on the “Sath Sathiya” (the seven weeks after the Buddha’s enlightenment).
