Jaffna school students visit Parliament
View(s):More than 700 students representing several schools in Jaffna visited Parliament last week.
Officials of the Outreach Division of Parliament had organised a Parliament tour for the students. The students also had the opportunity to watch Parliamentary proceedings live from the public gallery.
The students met with Angajan Ramanathan, Deputy Chairperson of Committees, Maithreepala Sirisena, MP and former President, and Members of Parliament Rauff Hakeem, Sarathi Dushmantha, Eran Wickramaratne, Uddika Premarathne, as well as Dhammika Dasanayake, former Secretary-General of Parliament and Narendra Fernando Sergeant-at-Arms.
The public gallery, which was closed due to the Covid pandemic, was reopened for school students from September 19 last year.
The Department of the Sergeant-at-Arms of Parliament provides all facilities for the visiting students, and the Communication Department organises tours, awareness workshops, and commemorative photos and videos related to them.
