Kushani Rohanadeera appointed new Parliamentary Secretary General

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Kushani Rohanadeera as the next Parliamentary Secretary General with effect from Tuesday.

The appointment was made with the approval of the Constitutional Council.

Ms Rohanadheera, the current Parliamentary Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General, will succeed Dhammika Dasanayake, who will retire soon.

She has a BSc (Hons.) in Biological Science from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL). She is also an attorney-at-law.

Having completed her primary and secondary education at Dharmasoka College in Ambalangoda, she began her career in Parliament as a Parliamentary officer in 1999 and served in various Parliamentary offices as an Assistant Principal Officer, Deputy Principal Officer, Assistant Secretary General, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General prior to her current appointment.

Prior to joining the Parliamentary service, she worked in the private sector as a Junior Executive at Sampath Bank, Junior Scientist at the Environmental Foundation Ltd., Distance Education Secretary to the Director of the National Institute of Education, and Centre Co-ordinator at Informatics (Pvt) Ltd.

She has undergone extensive training on Parliamentary procedures and practices and legislative drafting at the Lok Sabha in India, McGill University in Canada, and institutions in many other countries.

She is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Professional Managers, and a member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. She has published articles on Parliamentary procedures and practices in the journals of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers, Bank of Ceylon, Neethiya journal, Parliamentary journals and newspapers.

She is married to Harigupta Rohanadeera and is a mother of three children.
