Ranindu Dilshan secures bronze medal at Asian Zonal 3.2 Chess Championship 2023

Sri Lanka, won the second runner-up position at the Asian Zonal 3.2 Chess Championship 2023, thus securing the bronze medal. The Asian Zonal 3.2 Chess Championship 2023, organised by the Bangladesh Chess Federation, was held from May 2 to 10 at Hotel Purbani International in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The tournament was held as a nine-round Swiss System event, with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves and a 30 minutes with a 30 second increment per move starting from the first move.
FIDE Master Ranindu Dilshan was placed at fifth position in starting rank list. But with his outstanding performances throughout the event, he tied for the first runner-up position with FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Bangladesh scoring 7 out of 9 points. But at the tiebreak, Ranindu managed to finish the event by winning the bronze medal. He only lost one game in seventh round. IM Rahman Mohammad Fahad of Bangladesh won the championship scoring 7.5 out of 9 points.
