With a fusion of visual arts, music and cinema, the 11th edition of the ‘French Spring Festival 2023’ organised by the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française of Kotte in Colombo will take place from June 24 to July 9 – returning in full after a lapse of four years due to the  Covid pandemic.

Announcing the event at the press conference held at the Alliance Française of Kotte in Colombo, were Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka Jean-François Pactet, Alliance President Janaka Basuriya, Cultural and Cooperation Counsellor of the French Embassy Olivia Bellemere, Head of Communications at Gaia Greenenergy Holdings (Private) Limited Hansika Premarathna, Manager Corporate Communications at Hirdaramani Group Roshie Sandrasegaram, Chairman at Qwest Destinations Jayantha Perera and CEO at Publicis Sapna Seneviratne.

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and France, the festival will take place in three segments, with all events open to all free of charge.

The popular Fete de la Musique takes place on June 24 kicking off with an open mic at the Alliance Francaise in the afternoon. The audience will also enjoy the euphonious vocals of French singer Léa Paci along with Sri Lankan bands live in concert that evening at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

On July 5, photographers will exhibit under the theme ‘Celebrate!’ – entry details publicised already on social media platforms. The exhibition at the Alliance Française in Colombo will later move to the Alliance Française of Matara and Kandy.

Cinephiles, a four-day French film festival will take place from July 6 – 9. Six French films from comedies to thrillers as well as documentaries will be screened at the National Film Corporation including French film director Cédric Klapisch’s latest movie ‘En Corpse’ (Rise).
