51st Mercantile 7s next weekend
The Master Card Mercantile Rugby 7s 2023, conducted by the Mercantile Rugby Football Association (MRFA), will be held on June 16 and 17 at Longdon Place, commencing 8.30a.m. on both days.
A total of 20 Men’s teams and three Women’s teams will be participating in the 51st edition of the iconic tournament. Eight teams have been drafted to play in the Cup, Plate and Bowl segments under two groups.
Title holders John Keells Group has been slotted alongside MAS Holdings ‘A’, CDB Finance and Sampath Bank in Group ‘A’ while last year’s runners-up 3DH International are in Group ‘B’ with Pearl Beach, GSS International and Brandix. The top two teams will advance to the Cup semi-finals while the remaining four teams will be drafted into the Plate and Bowl segments.
Among the 12 teams that are slotted to compete in the Shield segment are Alliance Finance, Softlogic Holdings, Nations Trust Bank, Ceylinco VIP, MAS Holdings ‘B’, Hela Foundaton, HNB Group, Standard Chartered Bank, Moresand Ltd, Commercial Bank, HSBC and Dialog Axiata. The three teams set to feature in the Women’s Tag competition are CDB Finance, Sampath Bank and Softlogic Holdings.
