Dave & Central Cee at the top

Dave & Central Cee, currently two of the hottest names in the rap and hip hop genres in the UK, have collaborated to strike the top of the singles chart this week with ‘Sprinter’. The song debuted at the No: 1 position within a week of its release.

‘Sprinter’ took the top slot with a record breaking 108,200 units including 13.4 million streams, a record for a rap track in the UK. The previous record was held by Stormzy’s ‘Vossi Bop’ with 12.7 million in 2019.

Both Dave and Central Cee have been friends for a long time. For Brixton- London born Dave, this is his third UK chart topper after ‘Funky Friday’ in 2018 and ‘Starlight’ in 2022. For Ladbroke – London born Central Cee, the current hit is his first No: 1. His biggest hit previously was ‘Doja’ which peaked at No: 2 last year.

Both celebrated their 25th birthdays within a day of each other, Dave on June 4 and Central Cee on June 5. The breezy track ‘Sprinter’ is co-written by the two rappers under their actual names of David Omoregie (Dave) and Oakley Ceasar-Sum (Central Cee) along with James Olaloye, Jo Caleb and Jonny Leslie. ‘Sprinter’ is taken from Dave & Central Cee’s collaborative EP ‘Split Decision’.
