Royal College kicked off the Inter-Schools Rugby League Tournament to an exciting start with the first match on June 17. The much anticipated Inter-Schools’ Under-19 Rugby League Tournament is now in full swing all the schools are geared up to put on a gripping show for all fans and followers, both locally and internationally.

For the first round of the tournament, Royal College will host four home games – including the second leg of the 77th Bradby Shield encounter played against Trinity College. The other traditional trophy games against schools such as S. Thomas’ and Isipathana will be played once the first round of games are concluded.

Randul Senanayake and Thivain Perera have been appointed as the Royal College First XV rugby captain and vice-captain respectively. Dushanth Lewke will continue as Head Coach. Following a successful stint as the Royal College Under-18 Head Coach, Lewke was appointed as the Assistant Coach of Royal’s First XV team in 2013. In 2018, he was the Head Coach and since his appointment, Royal College has been crowned League champions in 2018 and 2019.

Organised by the Rugby Match Organising Committee of Royal College, an overwhelming audience of over 15,000 spectators are expected to attend the Bradby Shield Encounter this year.

Coming on board as the main sponsors of Royal Rugby 2023 are, National Development Bank (NDB Bank) as the main event sponsor and Brandix Lanka as the main team sponsor.

Brandix continues as Royal's Official Team Sponsor this season too

The annual rugby season boasts a long history of prestige and comradeship between some of the leading schools in the country where both winning and losing are accepted most graciously. Royal will play against St. Peter’s away in the opening game for the season and will travel to Mt. Lavinia to take on Science College the following week.

Royal will host three back-to-back matches in the next three weeks – against Vidyartha, Zahira and Dharmaraja before travelling to Kandy for the final first round game against Trinity College on July 29. This will also serve as the first leg of the Bradby Shield encounter to be held for the 77th occasion. Two weeks later, on August 12, the second leg of the Bradby Shield will take place at the Royal College Sports Complex.
