Plays to felicitate Piyadasa Nissanka’s 100th birth anniversary
View(s):Celebrating prolific Sinhala writer Piyadasa Nissanka’s 100th birth anniversary a theatre festival with two plays translated by him would be staged in Colombo.
Sanskrit drama translated by Nissanka to Sinhala ‘Sakunthala’ will be staged at 6.45 pm on June 25 at the Elphinston Theatre, Colombo. Ancient Indian poet Kálidása’s “Sakuntala” has been produced to a play by playwright and academic Prasannajith Abeysuriya.
Under the production of veteran playwright Parakrama Niriella, “Meti karaththaya” based on early Indian Sanskrit writer Shudrak’s “Mrichchakatikam’ or ‘The Clay Cart’ is to be staged soon. The plays are organised by Jude Srimal.
