Lyceum Wattala shine at Junior National Athletic Championship 2023

In a dazzling display of talent and unwavering determination, the athletic team of Lyceum International School, Wattala emerged as true champions at the highly acclaimed Junior National Athletic Championship 2023. With their remarkable achievements, the young athletes have brought pride and glory to their school and themselves.

The remarkable feat of Lyceum Wattala’s athletic team can be summed up in numbers that truly astound. They grabbed a tally of 12 gold, 12 silver, and seven bronze medals. Adding to their stellar performance, the team shattered records and set new benchmarks in the competition, this included a meet record in the Under-16 Boys High Jump and Under-16 Girls 200m events.

This outstanding success would not have been possible without the unwavering support and guidance of the esteemed coaching staff of Lyceum Wattala. Led by Lalith Silva, the Central Services Head Coach for Athletics, and assisted by Kamal Bandara, the Deputy Head Coach of Athletics, a formidable team of coaches including Anuradha, Herjinus, Damitha Athukorale, Nipuna Nirmal, Amila Prasanna, Augustine Appuhamy, Duminda Prasad and Jeewana Prasad worked tirelessly to mold these young athletes into true champions.

The dedication and commitment exhibited by Lyceum International School Wattala’s athletic team members have been instrumental in their remarkable success. These talented individuals, driven by their insatiable hunger for victory, have overcome numerous obstacles and pushed themselves beyond their limits to achieve greatness. Expressing his gratitude, Pradeep Nugegoda, the teacher-in-charge, alongside Amali Dewanarayana and Stefani Roux, commended the team’s outstanding achievements.

The Junior National Athletic Championship 2023 was held at Diyagama, providing the perfect backdrop for these young stars to showcase their exceptional abilities. The stadium was electrified with energy as participants from various age groups, including Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and Under-23 boys and girls competed fiercely to secure victory for their respective schools and regions.
