Sri Lanka named spin heavy attack for NZ women’s tour

For the first time in history, the New Zealand women’s cricket team are toruing Sri Lanka on a bilateral tour to engage in three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals beginning from June 27. The three Women’s ODIs will be played on June 27, 30 and July 3 at the Galle International Stadium followed by the three T20 Internationals to be played at the P. Sara Oval on July 8, 10 and 12.

Sri Lanka has named a spin-heavy squad for the three ODIs led by ace allrounder Chamari Athapaththu.

The series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship and it will be Sri Lanka’s fourth series in the current cycle. With six points from nine games, Sri Lanka is placed fifth on the points table while
New Zealand is at third with eight points from six games.

Sri Lanka last played three ODIs against Pakistan women and lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 and Bangladesh women 1-0 while New Zealand women won their recent series against West Indies 2-1 and Bangladesh 1-0, with two matches ending with no result.
