For all these reasons, hundreds of thousands of international students, from around the world, arrive in our open, stable, safe and welcoming society.
Sri Lankan students are known for their academic strength and for the unique perspectives and relationships they bring to Canadian university campuses and the broader community. We are seeing more Sri Lankans making Canada their first choice for study, and have been receiving more applications for study permits than ever before. Students from Sri Lanka are drawn to Canadian universities’ international reputation for academic excellence, state-of-the-art resources, and safe campuses in welcoming locations, as well as Canada’s flexible work experience options. Universities and colleges are incubators for innovation and many of them undertake research partnerships with the private sector. Several also offer co-op and internship programmes for students in Canada.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council for their dedication and effort in organizing Canada Education Expo 2023 and for their continuous support for Sri Lanka-Canada business relations. Sri Lankan students considering studies abroad will have the opportunity to meet both international and local representatives from some of Canada’s great educational institutions to learn more about what it is that makes Canada stand out in terms of quality of education, quality of life, cost competitiveness and a welcoming and diverse environment for students of all nationalities.
