The programme was held at the Convent of The Child Jesus National School, Ratnapura, organised by the Public Outreach Division of the Department of Communications of the Parliament.
The objective was to teach students the principles of democracy, responsibility, and accountability, as well as the importance of voting.
The Speaker was elected at the inaugural session, according to Parliamentary custom, followed by the official oaths and affirmation of the Ministers and Members of Parliament.
A legislative debate was also held, with knowledge about each subject presented.
Janakantha Silva, Director Legislative Services/Director Communication (Acting) of the Sri Lankan Parliament, delivered a special address, and G Thachchanarani, Director Administration of the Parliament, provided a comprehensive understanding of Members of Parliament’s representation on behalf of the public.
This event was attended by student delegates, instructors, and parents from six schools in the Ratnapura Education Zone. Books giving information about Parliamentary procedures were also supplied to each school’s library.
