SEE IT When You DON’T SEE IT

As I began my life for the second time, after a first chapter which was an utter failure, I drew a sketch of a beautiful house which I imagined would be the house I would live in the future. I showed the sketch I drew to a few of the people whom I had mistaken to be genuine. However, those people that I had assumed were doves were actually serpents, they began bad rapping me behind my back saying that I do not have a cent to scratch my back but I am dreaming of an unrealistic mansion. In accordance with the nature of explanation they could make, they were spot on. To their eyes and also to mine, my imagination was nowhere close to the sight of our eyes. At the time that my mind began to picture this mansion my total income was only 50,000/- rupees. Even though my physical eyes could not picture this mansion my mind’s eye began to visualise this mansion.

We must constantly transfer what is in our mind to our vision, even though our natural eyes are unable to see a glimpse of it and our noses are not able to smell the fragrance of it. That is why I chose “See it when you don’t see it” as the theme of this article. My vision about life and my status quo, at the point when I started life was far apart as the sky and the earth. The distance was immense that it was simply a joke to many. I also wanted to see myself becoming the best Sri Lankan in the CIM – UK Examination, yet for my natural eyes it was merely a foolish and unrealistic sight. People mocked me when I said I wanted to become a top scorer. It was a highly challenging task even in my eyes, as every time I sat down to study my mind kept repeating that it is impossible as I could not memorise the notes due to my severe long term addiction and consumption of drugs. My mind kept saying that my neurons are dead and ineffective. Even though it was out of sight to the natural eyes I continued to see it in my mental realm.

The famous John Lennon of the Beatles was rejected by the studio that he first introduced his track. The studio was unable to identify the famous John Lennon, instead they saw a worthless young man who thinks he could sing. As per John Lennon he did not see an unworthy man in him but a famous singer of great value. Rohan Pallewatta, who manufactures air bag sensors was initially rejected by Toyota. I am certain that everyone around him might have also thought that as a Sri Lanka, it was insane to think that he was able to manufacture one of the most sensitive elements of a vehicle for the world famous Japanese company. It seemed unrealistic to the natural eye. Even amidst many rejections Rohan continued to visualise what his mind saw. He continually pictured himself manufacturing air bag sensors for Toyota whilst it was out of sight as well as unimaginable. Do you see what you don’t see with the natural eye? The sight of the natural eye spans only a very short distance, yet the mind’s eye is capable of sighting an extensive journey.

During the second chapter in my life I always saw myself getting married to a beautiful girl. My friend Dulip once said that I looked like a lizard and a beautiful girl would never be attracted to me. Dulip was right, what I was seeing was far away from what the natural eye could see as all I possessed was an empty history as a drug addict and a mental patient who was sexually immoral. There was no visible reason on the entire earth that a beautiful girl would at all want to invest her life on a man with an empty life bag. However, I kept on seeing myself holding the hand of a very pretty girl. We are talking about a man who once wanted to propose to a prostitute near the William Grinding Mills. Today, if you see both my wife and the residence I live in, you will realise that I have been able to see something that was not visible to the natural eye at one point of life. Do not limit your sight to your current circumstance. Expand your sight to your utmost potential. It is only if you allow yourself that your problems will limit your potential.

Seeing what you do not see through your natural eye will only become a hallucination unless you thrive towards achieving what you cannot see with your natural eyes. It is essential to cultivate the seed of GRIT in order to be able to see what you cannot see naturally. Giving up does not need courage but to fight it demands only courage. The way in which we handle our thoughts define if we will have either a “Fighter Mind Set” or a “Giving Up Mind Set”. The great Lionel Messi never gave up seeing himself holding the FIFA World Cup during every world cup he failed to win. Many tend to give up on their dreams as their dreams are either too big or unrealistic to the natural eyes. Train your mind’s eye just as you would train your body to see what is not seen by the natural eye.

Just as you protect your natural sight, be mindful to protect your mind sight as your external environment has the ability to blindfold your vision. Be careful of “Dream Thieves” and “Vision Parasites” who surround you. Preserve your sight with arousing passion. Food cannot be kept in normal room temperature for long hours unless it is preserved with the required preservatives. Similarly, our vision must be protected and preserved as one single storm in life or one fiery flame could completely destroy your vision. Therefore, be extremely mindful of whom you share your dreams with. Construct your mind’s walls using bricks of Positivity along with the cement of Passion. Also do not forget to secure your mind with a strong gate known as Grit, lock it tight with Self Belief so that no harmful and paralysing thoughts can penetrate into your mind’s eye and make you blind to your vision.
