About 500,000 Aswesuma appeals: Minister says stop protests, focus on appeals
View(s):Around 500,000 people have appealed against the Aswesuma beneficiaries list, Social Empowerment State Minister Anupa Pasqual told the Sunday Times last night.
The State Minister called on those protesting to stop wasting their time on protests and get involved in the appeal process, warning that nothing could be done once the list was finalised.
He said anonymous complaints to remove the names of undeserving beneficiaries could be made through Divisional Secretariats as the aim of the appeal process was to remove the names of undeserving people and provide an opportunity for the deserving.
Some 6,728 officers were employed to assist the data collection process across the island to prepare the list. Once the list is finalised, the distribution of the payments will take place under four categories, namely, transitional, vulnerable, poor and extremely poor.
Despite the state minister’s reauest, unconvinced people were seen protesting outside their respective Divisional Secretariats. Anamaduwa (Puttalam), Digamadulla and Moratuwa were among them.
Large number of people were seen checking the beneficiaries’ lists displayed in District Secretariats even yesterday
