Pera Uni’s open day draws large crowds
A large number of people responded positively to the university’s open-day call
The University of Peradeniya’s open day event saw an unprecedented turnout with large crowds gathering at all faculties. The Faculty of Medicine was particularly popular among visitors.
Visitors were seen queuing up from 4.30 am at the gates to enter the Medical Faculty.
The event coincided with the university’s founder’s day. University officials garlanded the statue of Sir Ivor Jennings, who founded the university in July 1, 1942.
The open day was the first of its kind in the university’s 80-year history. The university decided to hold the open day following a proposal to this effect from Vice Chancellor M.D. Lamawansa. It received the support of all academics and the staff as they believed it would give the public and schoolchildren a glimpse of
Sri Lanka’s largest university.
