‘Euphoria’ by hearing impaired child artists
View(s):Shari Jayawardhana, a student of artist Saumya Jayasekera, will present the work of a group of hearing impaired child artists along with her own paintings under the theme ‘Euphoria’ on July 8 and 9 at the Gallery FourLife (No 26, Boteju Road, Colombo 5).
Being hearing impaired has not restricted these young artists of the School for the Deaf in Ratmalana and Nuffield School for the Deaf and Blind, Kaithady in Jaffna from expressing their thoughts in creative ways.
Shari took an interest in their creative abilities when she first encountered them at an exhibition organized by her previous workplace, the Women’s Education and Research Center (WERC) back in 2017. She then provided a platform of her own for about 20 child artists in ‘Euphoria’ .
The aim of Euphoria is to “raise awareness of the lived experiences of children with disabilities,” Shari says.
‘Euphoria’ will be on at the Gallery FourLife from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. next weekend.
